About Khao Pu - Khao Ya National Park

Khao Pu - Khao Ya National Park covers an area of over 1,100 square kilometers in Surat Thani Province, southern Thailand. Established in 1983, it protects one of the largest tracts of tropical rainforest in the region and is important for biodiversity conservation. The park's geography is dominated by the Khao Pu and Khao Ya mountain ranges, featuring steep limestone hills, dense jungle, waterfalls, and river valleys. The park includes elevations ranging from about 150 meters to over 1,050 meters, supporting a variety of flora and fauna typical of tropical evergreen forests. It hosts rare and endangered species such as tigers, Asian elephants, Malayan sun bears, and a diverse array of birdlife. Visitors can explore numerous hiking trails leading to viewpoints, waterfalls, and cave systems. The park also holds cultural significance for local indigenous communities, with some areas tied to their traditions and spiritual practices. Key recreation opportunities focus on trekking, wildlife watching, and nature photography. The park's natural beauty, combined with its ecological importance, makes it a rewarding destination for those interested in Southeast Asian forest ecosystems. The relatively remote location and less-developed tourism infrastructure create a more tranquil experience compared to other more frequented parks in Thailand.
